작가는 개인의 영역 내에서 연구된 ‘경계’의 의미를 중의적으로 해석하고, 이를 타인과 현대인으로 범위를 확장하여 우리 모두가 지니는 ‘경계의 영역’을 회화에 담는 연구를 진행하였다. 작가는 경계인을 통한 관계적 의미를 살펴보고 이를 작가의 회화에 ‘심미적 공간’에 구현한다. 

작가는 물리적인 사회적 관계의 고립으로 인해 심리적 외로움을 지닌 채 자신의 뚜렷한 소속이 정의되지 못하는 인간 존재에서 오히려 개인의 의미를 찾고자 한다. 작가가 연구한 경계인은 소통의 단절로 인해 고립된 영역에서 타인의 시선을 의식하지 않는 봉인된 시선의 삶을 살아간다. 이 같은 측면은 현대인이 자신의 삶을 포장하여 전시하는 위선적인 시선과 맞물려 결국 우리 모두의 내면에 양면의 모습을 지닌 ‘경계인’이 존재한다는 것으로 생각이 발전되었다. 

우리는 모두 자신만의 시선에서 세상을 바라보고 다른 관점에서 사회를 이해한다. 때문에 군중 속의 외로움처럼 사람들과 속해 있어도 인간은 외로움을 느끼고 소속의 부재를 느끼게 된다. 이를 작가는 우리 모두가 ‘경계’에 속해 있다고 생각을 하면서 작가가 바라보는 ‘경계선 세계’를 그려가고 있다.

항상 웃어야하는 ‘텔레토비’는, 짜증날 때도 있고 울고 싶을 때도 있는데 항상 웃고만 있어야 한다. 겨울인데 항상 멋있어야 하는 ‘행복한 왕자’는, 추워 죽겠는데 발가벗긴 채 사계절 내내 가만히만 있어야 한다. 조개에서 태어난 ‘비너스’는, 부모도 없이 혼자 태어났는데 태어나자마자 하필 신이라서 친구가 없다. 내가 만약에 ‘흐르는 물’이라면, 선택의 여지없이 ‘표면’이라는 상대방에 맞추고만 살아야 한다. (2018년 작가노트 중)

The artist ambiguously interpreted the meaning of ‘boundary’ studied within the personal realm, expanded its scope to include other people and modern people, and conducted research to capture the ‘area of ​​border’ that we all have in paintings. The author examines the relational meaning through boundary people and implements this in the ‘aesthetic space’ of the author’s paintings.

The author seeks to find personal meaning in human beings who suffer psychological loneliness due to isolation from physical social relationships and whose distinct affiliations cannot be defined. The borderline people studied by the author live a life with a sealed perspective, oblivious to the gaze of others, in an isolated area due to a breakdown in communication. This aspect, combined with the hypocritical view that modern people package and display their lives, eventually led to the idea that there exists a ‘borderline person’ with two sides inside all of us.

We all see the world from our own perspective and understand society from different perspectives. Therefore, like loneliness in a crowd, even if we belong to people, humans feel lonely and feel a lack of belonging. The author thinks that we all belong to a ‘border’ and is drawing a ‘borderline world’ from the author’s perspective.

‘Teletubbies’ always have to smile, there are times when they are annoyed and there are times when they feel like crying, but they always have to smile. The ‘Happy Prince’, who always has to look cool even though it’s winter, has to stay naked all year round even though he’s dying from the cold. ‘Venus’, who was born from a shell, was born alone without any parents, but as soon as she was born, she had no friends because she was a god.
