경계선 피드, Boundary Feed

<Boundary Feed>는 정방형(8s호) 캔버스에 그린 작품들이 모인 커다란 하나의 작품이다. SNS, 그 중 ‘인스타그램’ 플랫폼에 영감을 받아 진행된 작품이다. 인스타그램은 정방형 네모난 프레임 안에 현대인의 현실과 가상 세계를 반영하고 있다. 홍채연 작가는 8s(37.9x37.9)캔버스에 현대인의 경계선 세계를 담아내 커다란 회화를 이루고자 하였다. 그리하여 진행된 <Boundary Feed> 프로젝트는 8s (37.9x37.9cm) 작품이 100개 모여 커다란 회화를 이뤄낸 프로젝트이다. 아르코미술관에 전시된 이 거대한 회화 작품은 회화작품이 앞, 뒷면으로 설치되어 다른 전시 전경을 보여준다. 또한 설치된 회화작품은 빼곡히 작품이 다 매워져 있는 것이 아니라 중간중간 프레임이 있게 된다. 이는 관람객의 동선과 시선에 따라 작품이 달리 보일 수 있는 것을 반영하고자 하였다. 이는 마치 인스타그램에 보여지는 우리의 모습 같다. 

유명미술기관, 내셔널지오그래픽, 여행가, 패션쇼, 동료 작가 등 팔로우하는 다양한 인스타그램 속 정방형 피드를 회화 프레임으로 옮기면서 상상을 거친 또 다른 이미지를 만든다. 방대한 세계 속 대인은 우주의 먼지와 같다는 것을 경험하며 하나의 피드처럼 이미지를 조각조각 채운다. 이렇게 쌓인 이미지들이 모인 하나의 큰 세계는 동시대적인 흐름에서 이미지를 위한 예술과, 예술을 위한 이미지의 경계를 보여준다. 이는 실제와 가상의 삶 사이에 살고 있는 현대인의 경계선 세계이다. (2020년 작가노트 중)

<Boundary Feed> is a large piece of work drawn on a square (size 8s) canvas. This work was inspired by SNS, especially the ‘Instagram’ platform. Instagram reflects the reality and virtual world of modern people within a square frame. Artist Hong Chae-yeon attempted to create a large painting by capturing the borderline world of modern people on an 8s (37.9x37.9) canvas. The <Boundary Feed> project, which was carried out thus, is a project in which 100 8s (37.9x37.9cm) works were gathered together to form a large painting. This huge painting on display at the Arko Art Museum presents a different view of the exhibition as the painting is installed on the front and back sides. Additionally, the installed paintings are not filled with pieces, but have frames in between. This was intended to reflect the fact that the work can be viewed differently depending on the viewer's movement and gaze. This is like what we see on Instagram.

By transferring square feeds from the various Instagram accounts you follow, such as famous art institutions, National Geographic, travelers, fashion shows, and fellow writers, into a painting frame, you create another image based on your imagination. People in the vast world experience that they are like dust in the universe and fill in the images piece by piece like a single feed. One big world of these accumulated images shows the boundary between art for the sake of images and images for the sake of art in contemporary trends. This is the borderline world of modern people living between real and virtual lives. (From the 2020 artist’s notes)
